Christian Nyby or Howard Hawks? In the end, I really don’t care who directed our main feature as this sci-fi epic about a Killer Carrot from Outer Space is a whole six-pack of un-ironic awesomeness and my love for it knows no bounds. Nope, no gut-check or toiling or sweating over the answer when posed a query of ‘What’s your favorite movie of all time?’ No ifs, ands or buts, it’s The Thing from Another World. And with that, we have officially finished migrating all the ads over from the old blog. *whew* Fear not, there’s still lots and lots of new stuff to post for your viewing pleasure so stay tuned. And until then, Boils and Ghouls, keep watching the skies!

Sure, to get to that huge, almost operatic chase scene at the end of H.B. Halicki’s Gone in 60 Seconds, a viewer has to endure the first half of the movie that kinda spends its time grinding gears, but, believe me, it’s worth the effort for the resulting carnage and road-rash that takes up all the second half of the movie, where an average of three cars a minute are sent to the big junkyard in the sky. As for our second feature, we’ve got another American International counter-culture extravaganza when a hippy, a hobo and a teen-aged runaway stick out their thumbs for a ride to the promised land in sunny California.

You know, I’m not sure what did more damage to L.A. in this flick: the earthquake, or the scenery chewing done by the majority of the cast. The levels on the Richter Scale were about even, after all, making it too close to call.
