To me, The Towering Inferno will always be the apex of Irwin Allen’s disaster/photo-box cycle but there’s still a lot of topsy-turvy fun to be had on The S.S. Poseidon, with absolutely no threat of getting the bends. And to give credit where credit is due, if one deserves credit for such a thing (– though some would argue the ‘lay the blame card’), but, Mr. Allen beat Mr. Spielberg to the punch on the whole B-Movie with an A-Movie budget and cast by over two years. And for the record, the super-secret screening alluded to in the later ads was for Franklin Schaffner’s Nicholas and Alexandra.
