Although John Broderick’s Six Pack Annie, where our title lush searches for the right Sugar Daddy to keep her restaurant afloat, isn’t the apex of the Hicksploitation or Backwater Buffoonery genre it’s still worth your time, even if you don’t have a high tolerance for such things. As for our second feature, we move out of the country to the streets of suburban Los Angeles, where our title lead is a cop who gives his *ahem* ‘nightstick’ a lot of work as he protects and serves, and serves, and serves and serves and serves, a seemingly endless line of needy women. (And you won’t believe what the Urban Dictionary’s definition of a Dirty O’Neil is…)

Okay, now I know that last ad technically isn’t a double-feature but it still cracks me all the hell up. Inspired by Elliot Silverstein’s A Man Called Horse, which saw Richard Harris forcibly going native and suspended on a couple of meat-hooks through his chest, Umberto Lenzi’s unofficial remake finds another Brit well off the beaten path of civilization, deep in the jungles of Thailand, where he is captured by some natives who go all Mondo Cane on his ass. Yeah, we’ve got Cannibal Cinema Ground Zero, here, folks, complete with sadistic tribal rituals, wholesale animal slaughter, and who the hell knows what else will be permanently scarred into you retinas. And with its box-office success, for the next decade, Lenzi and fellow Italian director Ruggero Deodato would continually march off into the jungle to try and one up each other by heaping one atrocity on top of the other in effort to make the audience taste their popcorn twice. And you can see it all if you’re over 18 — with proof, pilgrim.

Man from Deep River (1972) Medusa Produzione :: Joseph Brenner Assoc. / EP: Giorgio Carlo Rossi / P: Ovidio G. Assonitis / D: Umberto Lenzi / W: Francesco Barilli, Massimo D’Avak / C: Riccardo Pallottini / E: Eugenio Alabiso / M: Daniele Patucchi / S: Ivan Rassimov, Me Me Lai, Prasitsak Singhara, Sulallewan Suxantat

Apparently, these South Sea and Far East Goona Goona flicks were a genre all by themselves. Who knew, right? Well, anyways, depending on which translation you believe, Goona Goona either refers to a potent aphrodisiac or some kind of evil spell. Hunh … On second thought, that might be considered the same thing in some circles. But not mine. And these films, about a baker’s dozen of stock and travelogue footage-fueled exploitaters mostly concerned themselves with the same nookie nookie. This mondo double feature of rehashed releases then continues with a trip to Africa, specifically a safari through the Belgian Congo, for a peek at the taboos of the local tribes — in a National Geographic sense, if you know what I mean.

If being shot by cult-fave Ray Dennis Steckler isn’t enough to bring you to something like The Erotic Adventures of Pinocchio, where our artificial stud’s you-know-what grows instead of his nose when he gets randy, well, what if I told you Dyanne Thorne played his Fairy Godmother, whose spells usually backfire leaving her to run around in the buff. That’s right: it’s the She-Wolf of the SS by way of Walt Disney. Get thee to the adult video store! And while you’re there, you might as well check out Bill Osco’s Alice in Wonderland, his follow up to the equally demented Flesh Gordon, where cute-as-a-button Kristine DeBell plays Alice as a walking erectile-dysfunction cure-all. Trust me. You don’t wanna know what Humpty Dumpty broke. Now send in the dancing nurses! And if you listen real close, that sound you just heard was Carlo Collodi’s and Lewis Carroll’s graves detonating.

The Erotic Adventures of Pinocchio (1971) Eve Productions :: Cinépix Film Properties / P: Chris Warfield / AP: Lawrence M. Daley, Nicholas Wowchuk / D: Corey Allen / W: Chris Warfield, Corey Allen, Carlo Collodi (novel) / C: Ray Dennis Steckler / E: Tom Conlon / M: John Barber / S: Alex Roman, Monica Gayle, Karen Smith, Dyanne Thorne

Alice in Wonderland: An X-Rated Musical Fantasy (1976) Cruiser Productions :: General National Enterprises / P: Bill Osco / D: Bud Townsend / W: Bucky Searles, Lewis Carroll (novel) / C: Joseph Bardo / E: Shaun Walsh / M: Bucky Searles / S: Kristine DeBell, Bucky Searles, Gila Havana, Alan Novak

Among the young female hellions being used and abused by the corrupt and sadistic reformatory system in our first feature are both Anne Francis and Rita “Rosita” Moreno, both making their screen debuts, whom crusading doctor Paul Henreid tries to reach with a carrot instead of a stick — well, make that a carrot instead of a fire-hose. What Sinister Secret Surrounds Their Fate? You won’t believe it until you see it! As for our second feature, both the title and the ad campaign betray the true nature of this tale of what lengths a newlywed will go to to avenge a husband who was murdered by a carjackers just after they leave the chapel.
